Cobra Gunship Downed
Near Our Perimeter
By Charles Adams

Around June 1971 a Cobra gunship was shot down just northwest of A-4 (Con Thien). We saw it get hit. The pilots did a great job in bringing that chopper down near the fire base. I believe a troop from the 5th Mech were the ones that went out with their tracks and got both guys with just scrapes and bruises. Boy was that close. All of us gun bunnies felt kind of helpless because they were so close that the 8 Inch's could not fire in support of the downed chopper. I think the dusters provided covering fire for the rescue.
