Elimination of Khe Sanh Bound Helicopter Dust
By Carl Lanier

While A Battery was at the Rockpile in 1968, the 1st Air Cav came out to rescue the Marines at Khe Sanh. Every morning at about 9 o'clock there would be about 150 helicopters flying low right over our position and stir up the dust all over everything. At about 1600 hours they would return and stir up the dust some more. I got tired of this, so one morning I told the gunners to get on the guns and when I said ELEVATE , raise the tubes as high as they could go. Man you should have seen those choppers trying to get out of the way. They thought for sure we were going to fire. We did not have any problem from the flying over us any more.
